Eugene O'Neill Theater
reopens this weekend

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

After more than eight months of not being presented with an audience, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the National Symphony Orchestra will perform a live concert together with dancers from the Cicció Studio at the Eugene O'Neill Theater.

The presentation will merge different types of dance such as classical, contemporary and ballroom ballet, with the music of composers such as Costa Rican Vinicio Mesa, Astor Piazzolla from Argentina and John Williams, who is from the U.S.

Performed by a group of five musicians that include a cello, a double bass, two bassoons and percussion, the concert will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m., at the theater that is located in San Pedro District, San José Province.

The theater has 125 seats available for the public, following the sanitary guideline of keeping 50% of the maximum capacity of the theater.

The tickets cost ¢3,000 colones. Students with an ID card will receive a discount. Tickets can be purchased at the theater box office on the day of the show. The entry must be paid in cash with the exact amount. The gates and the box office will be open to the public beginning 5 p.m. Saturday.

“This proposal was born from the need of the artists, and the public, to be able to once again enjoy the magic that can only be experienced in a face-to-face show, and we are happy to be able to combine this staging with the Cicció Studio movement to some of the works that we are going to perform," Marco Redondo, musician of the orchestra said.

The last presentation made by the National Symphony Orchestra with public attendance, was in March 2020, during a concert tour in Guanacaste. This concert, which is co-produced by the Costa Rican North American Cultural Center, will be the first with public participation since the pandemic began.
