Emergency
measures on massiveevents due to coronavirus By the A.M. Costa Rica staff All large-scale events or massive concentration activities, both free and paid, are canceled in Costa Rica, due to the case of 13 confirmed cases of coronavirus, according to the Ministry of Health in coordination with other public institutions. Sunday, the National Emergency Commission declared a yellow alert throughout the country, because of people infected with the coronavirus. This yellow alert means that all emergency centers in the communities throughout the country will be able to access capital funds from the Commission, to address a possible increase of patients infected with the virus. The goal is to mitigate the transmission of coronavirus, said the ministry in a statement. The cancellation of events applies by decree for all large-scale events such as festivals, conferences, ceremonies, concerts, conventions, carnivals, among others. Special measures will be applied for activities such as cinemas, theaters and sporting events. For example, the major soccer league games will be played in private, without fans. So far, the exception of the rule is for religious activities, schools, universities or academies. In these cases, the lessons or activities will be not be suspended, said the ministry. Authorities of other institutions such as the ministries of Economy, Education, Tourism, among others, held meetings with the organizers of public events, to coordinate actions to be taken due to cancellations. During the next few days, all companies and organizations that have announced events to the public will make public their cancellation. According to the Ministry of Tourism, on Monday 19 public events were canceled. President Carlos Alvarado issued a decree about public employees working from home The decree was published on Monday in the government newspaper known as La Gaceta. The Ministry of Labor confirmed that the director or president of each public institution will authorize employees to work from home. The order issued by Alvarado also calls on private companies to take into account the yellow alert issued by the National Emergency Commission and implement working from home in their companies. However, the Ministry of Education confirmed that orders have not yet been given to suspend public schools with the exception of three schools in Desamparados where one teacher is suspected with having coronavirus. According to the Ministry of Health, international data shows that coronavirus is limited in affecting children under the age of 12. However, depending on the evolution of the virus in the country, the necessary measures will be taken to the protection of students and employees of the Ministry of Education. Concerning the suspension of the water service due to the shortages made by the Institute of Water in some communities, the authorities announced a plan of distribution of water with tank trucks in areas where the water service was suspended. The Minister of Health calls on the population to constantly wash their hands, and apply the correct process of sneezing or coughing. -------------------------------- Should authorities suspend lessons due to the yellow alert?
