Piaf Musical at the Melico Salazar Theater
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Édith Piaf Musical is presented at the Melico Salazar Theater* in San José, today and Saturday. As the name suggests, the show is based on the life of the artist, from 1915 until 1963, who began her career singing in the streets and became one of the most famous French singers. "Through her most emblematic songs we will know a life marked by her intensity and temperament," said the Melico Salazar Theater in the presentation of the musical. "This show draws on the expressive universe of the Piaf and her unique way of singing the melodies that were played in some of the most famous cabarets in the world. " The interpretation of Piaf will be portrayed by the Venezuelan actress Mariaca Semprún, and stage direction is by Miguel Issa, who created the musical in Caracas, Venezuela. The Musical has toured countries, such as the U.S., Spain, and Mexico. The most recent performances were in the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando Florida, at the Colony Theater of Miami Beach, at Teatro Fígaro in Madrid, Spain, and at Gran Teatro Moliére in Mexico. According to the directors, the musical is a travel machine that makes its way through the '20s to the '50s. With the live performance of a band of 7 musicians, the songs are interpreted in French and some are in English, as they were originally recorded. "In the musical, the public will enjoy the interpretation of famous songs such as Mon légionnaire, Je ne regrette rien, La vie en rose, Les amants de Paris, Hymne a l'amour, Mon dieu and Milord," said the Director Issa. Tickets cost between $40 to $85 depending on the seats chosen.
