-Published: Monday, October 14, 2019- Dominican wanted by
the U.S. arrested in Golfito
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Border Police officers from the Guaycará delegation in the Golfito* district in the southern zone of the country, arrested a man surnamed Polanco, a Dominican citizen, who is named in a warrant from the U.S. Justice Department. According to the police report, Polanco is wanted by a New York court for a case linked to a murder. The Dominican was arrested Wednesday at the Border Police post in Golfito, during a routine review. "He was traveling as a passenger in a car when he was going to San José, apparently coming from somewhere in the border sector with Panama," said the police in its report. In the routine review, the man handed the officers a passport and a driver's license of a U.S. citizen named Michael Dominik John from California. "Everything seemed normal," the police said in its report. "With that identification, there was no criminal record or warrant order." However, during the routine review, the man admitted to the officers that the documents were fake and his real name was Julio Mairena, born in Nicaragua, police said. Given the situation, the officers said they decided to review the identifications with the Drug Control Police and with authorities of the United States Embassy in Costa Rica. The man was arrested for using a false document and after an investigation, the officers discovered that the true surname of the suspect was Polanco, who born in the Dominican Republic on Nov. 3, 1980, and that he was the subject of an arrest warrant for a murder case, committed in New York. According to the police report, Polanco does reside in the United States and in Costa Rica he is living in an apartment located in the community of Colima in the district of Tibás in the province of San José. The suspect was taken to the cells of the Public Ministry where he was interrogated by the judicial agents and after that, they must wait until a judge considers his extradition to the United States. Related to the most recent arrest of a U.S. citizen wanted by U.S. court, as A.M. Costa Rica reported on Sept 24rd, the Immigration Police detained a man surnamed Hall during a special patrol in the Jacó Beach* area, in the province of Puntarenas. ![]() According to the police report, when they reviewed the person's passport, it was detected that the U.S. citizen "had a criminal record in his country for robbery, assault and reckless driving." The man was taken to a holding cell of the immigration police, where he was interviewed by officers and will stay in immigration custody during the extradition process to the United States. According to the Directorate of Immigration, in these special patrolling operations, the officers have the goal of finding "foreigners with irregular immigration status and foreigners with criminal records that could put peoples safety at risk." In addition to patrolling in the area, officers make checks on the main roads, where they review drivers and passenger identification documents or passports. Immigration officers also patrol public and commercial places such as shops, massage rooms, hostels, and areas of major visitation of foreigners, as well as a review of people on public roads and in the beach area. ---------------------------- How
the suspect could leave the United States with a
warrant order against him? We would like to know
