Dangerous virus will be detected
hereBy the A.M. Costa Rica staff The minister of Health, Daniel Salas, reported on Wednesday that the National Laboratory is already able to implement the specific lab test to diagnose the disease known as coronavirus COVID-19. According to the ministry, it is a molecular test known as a real-time polymerase chain reaction, PCR-TR. If there is a suspicious case that arises, the test is able to rule out or confirm the presence of the lethal virus without having to send the sample outside the country. However, this important resource will be available only to health authorities who will decide which samples will be processed in the laboratory. In addition, the Health authorities reported that the surveillance guidelines for the disease were updated. The case definition now includes people who have been in countries with native coronavirus cases in the last 14 days, according to the official list of the ministry that includes China, South Korea, Iran and Italy. In addition, the patient must have a fever greater than or equal to 38 C about 100.4 F, cough or sore throat and, in the most severe cases, respiratory distress. There is no report of a Costa Rican being affected by the coronavirus. However. Due to the easy transmission of the virus the arrival of the virus to this country is very likely, said the ministry in its statement. Due to the possible entry of the virus into the country, the authorities remember “the importance of continuing with the correct form of handwashing and sneezing, which should be applied at any time and at any time of the year, since they prevent respiratory viruses, as well like the microorganisms that produce diarrheal symptoms.
