Costa Rican named international beauty fourth runner-up in Egypt

On Sunday, Costa Rican Kristel Ruiz Freeman, 22, was named Miss Eco International 2021 fourth runner-up coronation night took place at the Baron Resort Sharm El Sheikh in Nasrany, Egypt.

Ruiz Originally from Limón Province was crowned as Miss Eco Costa Rica in October 2019 to represent the country in the international beauty pageant.

The winner among the 39 candidates who competed for the title, is South Africa's Gizzelle Uys. Her court is completed with Miss Philippines Kelley Day as 1st runner-up, Miss USA Alexandria Kelly as 2nd runner-up, Miss Venezuela Steffania Rodriguez for 3rd place.

The contest is for a cause working under the umbrella of the Intergovernmental Institution for the Use of Micro-Algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition, IIMSAM, of the United Nations and Egyptian tourism.

The IIMSAM is a New York-based Autonomous-I.G.O. Entity within the Collaborative Inter-governmental Scientific Research Institute, Free Agreement for co-operation in scientific research and humanitarian use of micro-algae spirulina as food.

The organization's goal is to disseminate Spirulina as a Humanitarian Instrument in fighting severe malnutrition worldwide.

Spirulina is a blue-green algae used as a dietary supplement or whole food.

The winner also becomes a United Nations goodwill ambassador to help the planet and promote Eco-Tourism worldwide, according to the pageant organizers.
