Costa Rica recognized as a
Safe Travel Destination

The World Travel and Tourism Council, WTTC, recognized Costa Rica as Safe Travels Destination, due to how the country complies with the sanitary guidelines for traveling, announced the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.

According to the Institute, the recognition guarantees national and international tourists who are traveling to Costa Rica that the country has developed guides with measures to ensure and promote physical distance, the use of masks, the establishment of social bubbles and hand washing, to name a few, in the fight against the pandemic.

"This week we received this good news and we are very proud of the work of all the people who made the protocols to guarantee safety to their workforce and travelers in this process of adapting to the new normality," said Gustavo Segura, Minister of Tourism. "This is an important step and forces everybody in the tourist chain to comply with the guidelines."

According to Gloria Guevara, President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council, the implementation and improvement of health measures along the lines of the WTTC traveler safety guidelines, develop the sector, rebuilding traveler confidence and ensuring a coordinated global approach of the public and private sectors.

By complying with the stipulated requirements, the WTTC granted the use of the Safe Travels Seal under the category of "Destination Public Authorities" to be ambassadors and be able to extend (the recognition) to companies that comply with the implementation of the 16 guidelines developed to date, the institute said in its statement.

The next step for the institute is to start the process to sub-license Costa Rican tourism companies and promote the use of the Safe Travels seal. Tour operators, people and companies interested in obtaining the Safe Travels seal must request the information from the institute's telephone line 506 2299-5731 or by email SafeTravels@ict.go.cr

According to the institute, countries such as Panama, Aruba, Portugal, Dubai, Turkey, Egypt, Ukraine, as well as the Spanish cities of Seville and Benidorm have already obtained this recognition.
