The Costa Rican Soccer Federation announced that the men's soccer team traveled on Thursday to California for the game against the U.S.A. which will take place Saturday at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles.

According to the federation, the team will do training in the sports park today before the friendly match that starts tomorrow at 3 p.m. Costa Rica time.

Coach Rónald González reported that this match is part of the team's training before the Federation International Soccer Association games in March. The official games eventually determine which teams will occupy slots for the World Cup in 2022.

According to the U.S. Soccer Federation, the game will be broadcast Saturday at 3:55 p.m. ET on ESPNNews, UniMás and TUDN and also at the U.S. Soccer’s official Facebook site.

"Kicking off a big year for the U.S. Men’s National Team program, a young USMNT squad wraps up the month-long January Camp when it faces  Costa Rica," said the federation in its statement.


Before the match between the men's teams, the women's soccer team will face Haiti at Compass Stadium today in Houston at 5 p.m. Costa Rican time.

This game is part of the pre-Olympic phase that gives the qualification to participate in the Tokyo 2020 world games representing the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association.

Before facing Haiti, the women's team played against Panamá, winning 6 to 1. Before that the team played against Rice University women's soccer team, winning 3 to 0.

Both games will be televised on local channels, and the score will be published in the National Football Federation Facebook page.

Costa Rican soccer team coach Jazmín Elizondo chose a strong base of experienced players such as Shirley Cruz, Gloriana Villalobos, Melissa Herrera and Raquel Rodriguez, among others.

"We are happy with this list of players, and also with all those who were in the whole process," said coach Elizondo. "The new ones we summoned were presented with the opportunity and they came, they did well and we consider that they enter the profile that we want from the players for this tournament. ”


The women's soccer team won a bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games, the multi-sport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization, which was held in Lima, Peru, from July 26 to Aug. 11.

The team defeated Paraguay 1-0 at minute 82 when Daniela Cruz scored a goal.
