By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Costa Rica Convention Center obtained three recognitions in the Eventex 2021 Awards, announced the Institute of Tourism. The awards obtained are: the gold award received in the category of People's Choice for the second consecutive year, which is given to the place with the most votes from the public. In addition, two bronze awards, one in the categories of Best Convention Center in the World and Most Versatile Venue. The Eventex Awards, founded in 2009, has 561 registrations from event venues from 37 countries. The awards, also known as The Global Event Awards, are a set for recognizing the achievements in the world of events. "Getting an Eventex Award is a great honor for the Costa Rica Convention Center," Ovanes Ovanessian, co-founder of Eventex Awards said. "Each award is based entirely on merit and recognizes the fantastic creativity, flexibility and drive of the company to innovate." The awards aim to celebrate creativity, innovation and efficiency in the industry. Every year, the competition highlights the best agencies, events and technology in the world of events, the institute said. “These recognitions are the manifestation of the great vision the Institute and the private sector had in the diversification of tourism products. It places Costa Rica as one of the most important emerging destinations in the Meetings Industry at a global level, which it has represented more than 20% of tourism worldwide and that attracts a tourist who spends up to 5 times more than the traditional tourist,” Álvaro Rojas, General Manager of the Center said.  According to the institute, the Convention Center has received more than 18 recognitions and awards since its inauguration in April 2018. It is the largest convention center in the country with the capacity to host 4,500 people all at once. The laces, which is located eight kilometers west of Juan Santamaría International Airport, was developed on 15,600 square meters, budgeted at $35 million for an exhibition area, lobbies, convention halls, parking lots and spaces for outdoor exhibitions. International meetings and convention tourism represents 22% of the industry and generates around $11 billion a year, according to the World Tourism Association. However, due to the sanitary guidelines ordered by the Ministry of Health to try to control the expansion of the covid-19 in the country, the Center limited the number of events and public access.
