The Descubre program (discover in the English language) opens a contest for non-reimbursed funds for entrepreneurs in rural areas. This program is developed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Export Promotion Agency, among other public organizations, to improve the agricultural and fishing activities in the country. The winners should use the funds as seed capital for the production of agriculture. In addition, they will receive technical assistance from specialists to improve their productivity. In total, 27 entrepreneurs will be selected to receive about $18,000 each as part of the plan to become suppliers to already established export companies. Entrepreneurs who can apply in their name or through their company name must meet the following requisites: * Owns a small company, with less than 100 workers. * Registered as a company or independent worker with Social Security. * Owns at least three hectares of land that can be used for the cultivation of abacá bananas. * Or owns one hectare of land that can be used for the cultivation of cassava or orange sweet potato. * Must register with the Export Promotion Agency (Procomer). The deadline to apply is Aug. 12. Winners will be announced on Sept. 3, according to Procomer.
