In June, construction will resume on the highway between the province of San José and the San Ramón District in Alajuela Province.

Specifically, construction will continue on the section between Route 1, located in Castella District, to Route 106 in Barreal District in Heredia Province. This sector is an important connection with the main highway.

According to the Ministry of Public Transport, the construction of the highway began in 2020 and to date is 90% complete. Currently, the asphalt work and the construction of a pedestrian bridge are being completed.



The highway plan includes:

Phase 1, between Sabana Canton and Circunvalación is 1.6 km with 3 lanes in each direction.

Phase 2, between Circunvalación and Juan Santamaria Airport  is 12.6 km with 4 lanes in each direction

Phase 3, between the Airport and San Antonio del Tejar in Alajuela is 5.2 km with 3 lanes in each direction.

Phase 4, between San Antonio del Tejar to San Ramón in Alajuela is 34.8 km with 2 lanes in each direction

The project is budgeted between $600 million and $610 million to build 55 kilometers of highway between San José and San Ramón.

The plan is for $450 million to be paid through tolls. And $160 million will be paid with a loan from the International Development Bank, IDB, and funds from the National Highway Council.

The highway is expected to be completed in 2025.
