Celebrating independence weekend with parades, music, and fireworks

During this weekend, Costa Ricans and those who have adopted this beautiful country will celebrate independence day.

The independence party includes concerts, parades, fireworks, dances, food, and folk music in all communities throughout the country.

Some options to celebrate independence are:

- In the province of Cartago, the Municipal band will perform a concert on Saturday at 5 p.m., at the central park in the city*. The Faroles parade will start shortly after.

At 6 p.m., also at the central park in Cartago, President Carlos Alvarado, accompanied by the first lady Claudia Dobles and other government authorities, will give the traditional speech of independence.

Then at 8 p.m., there will be a municipal fireworks show.

At 9 p.m., rock band Mal Pais will perform at Plaza Mayor*.

On Sunday, high school students will hold the traditional independence parade at the central park in Cartago, starting at 8 a.m.

Also on Sunday, at 6 p.m., the Municipality of Cartago will close the celebrations with a fireworks show.

- In the province of San José, on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. the Faroles Parade will go through Barrio Escalante*. Also, the Municipal band of San José will perform a folk music concert.

Also on Saturday, in the city of Zapote*, there will be an Independence Festival, starting at 9 a.m. with cultural activities such as dances, music, and traditional food. There will also be folk crafts and souvenirs for sale.

In Parque La Libertad*, in the community of Fatima de Desamparados, the Faroles Parade, folk dances, food, and music will start at 6 p.m. On Sunday, the high-school's independence parade will begin at 8 a.m.

The fireworks show will start at 6 p.m. in the Municipality of San José.

On Sunday, at 8 a.m. President Carlos Alvarado, together with First Lady Claudia Dobles and other government authorities, will participate in the independence parade that will take place in the National Park*.

Similar activities will take place Saturday and Sunday, in the rest of the communities of the provinces of Limón, Alajuela, Heredia, Puntarenas, and Guanacaste. The Municipality in each community may provide information about the independence celebration activities.
