Thanksgiving is one of the most important dates on the calendar for expats. In Costa Rica, you can choose to celebrate at the church of your community, cook a delicious traditional dinner all day at home or enjoy with family and friends having dinner outside.



The Beach Community Church, an English-speaking Bible foundation, has invited parishioners and the public to the Thanksgiving Fellowship Feast that will take place in the church today.

The celebration starts at 4 p.m. in the church facilities located on the road to Huacas in Brasilito in Guanacaste. Members of the church and the public in general who wish to collaborate with this activity may request more information at phone number 8621-6273.


Another Thanksgiving service will be at the Horizon Church where the traditional dinner will be today at 5 p.m. The church is located in Jacó Beach in the central Pacific coast.

"We'll provide the turkeys and hams. All you need to do is share this invite with your friends and bring a side dish or two to share," the church said in his invitation.

Horizon Church is an English-speaking congregation founded by missionaries Daniel and Sarah Barrett. They are church planting missionaries in Jacó. For reservations at services and Thanksgiving dinner, those wishing may contact the church at info@horizonjaco.org or call 8996-2685.

If you want to have a nice dinner outside the home, here is a list of options to choose today from, in the city, the beach or the mountain.



At the beach, Los Sueños Marina Resort invites readers to celebrate at the marina located in Herradura Beach on the central Pacific coast. There are two restaurant options to book the dinner: the Hook-Up or the Laterna. at both the traditional Thanksgiving dinner is offered for $29.50 per person. Tambor Tropical Beach Resort will host a Thanksgiving concert with singer Mario Solano and saxophonist Michael Brenes. The concert starts at 6 p.m. at the Resort located in Tambor Beach. More information call 2683-0011.



Another option is dinner at Hotel Villas Alturas in Dominical Beach on the central Pacific coast This year there will be live music with Blues On Fire Band. Information is available at 2200-5440.


Also, a dinner is hosted by Costa Rica Sailing Center located in Potrero, Guanacaste. The menu is priced at $32. Kids are $12 per person. Kids under 5 are free. More information is available at 2654-4300.



Fuego Brew restaurant at Dominical Beach on the Pacific coast also offers either lunch or dinner today. Fire Brew will be open from 1:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. For reservations, readers can call 8373-0635.


Among the beach options are the Coconutz & Angry Goats Brewery restaurant in Hermosa Beach in Guanacaste.  Thanksgiving dinner starts at 2 p.m. The price of the dinner is $20 per person. For reservations call 2670-1982.


The ZI Lounge restaurant, located in Playas del Coco in Guanacaste offers a traditional dinner. The price is $30 per person. For reservations call 2670-1978.


Also in Coco the restaurant El Chivo on Pelada Beach offers the Gringo Thanksgiving dinner starting at 6 p.m. The price per person is $18. There will also be live music with the Effin ’Gees! Reservations, call 2682-0887.

In the city, the community of Germans in Costa Rica plans to celebrate the Thanksgiving dinner at Club Aleman de Costa Rica. Dinner started at 5 p.m. in the club that is located in Los Yoses, San José.


The German community also plans a Christmas Market where the traditional Gluhwein mulled wine, Christmas decorations, food, chocolates, canned fruits and a variety of products for Christmas gifts will be sold. The Marriott Hotel in Belen, Heredia, offers traditional American-style dinners today from 6 p.m. The price is $56 per person. Children from 6 to 12 years receive a 50% discount, and for children from up to 5 years dinner is free. For reservations, call 2298-0168.


The Intercontinental Hotel in Escazú also offers dinner in the traditional American style. The price of dinner depends on the menu options. For reservations, call 2208-2142.




The Indian Palace restaurant in Barrio Escalante offers Thanksgiving dinner for vegetarians influenced by Indian food. The price of the dinner is $20. Reservations, call 8583 6358.


In the country, the Gingerbread restaurant located in Arenal in Guanacaste offers dinners from 5 p.m. Also planned is music and dancing with a medley of Beatle's tunes by the BoomChakas. Reservation, call 2694 0039.


In Atenas in Alajuela, restaurant El Patio, offers dinner $30 per person. Reservations, call 8402 1612.

Today the U.S. Embassy will remain closed. The diplomatic headquarters will open its doors again to the public on Friday, at its usual schedule from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
