By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Due to the pandemic, the majority of recreational car and motor vehicle races were suspended since 2020. However, the Federation of Motorsports announced the reopening of the most important car competitions this year.
The Federation is the only one that represents the car races before the Costa Rican Institute of Sports. Motorcycle racing is managed by the Motorcycling Federation.
Despite the pandemic, the car-racing associations have resumed competitions following all the guidelines ordered by the health authorities.
"All the board of directors of the associates has been very committed to being able to carry out competitions, that makes us very happy because we recognize the effort they have made for their pilots to compete," Leopoldo Diez, president of the Federation said. "We are working in connection with the authorities' guidelines to allow the public to enter the areas ( referring to the places where the racing will be held)."

Among the main competitions that will be held this year are Autocross, Auto Model, Circuit Car Racing, Virtual Motor Racing, 4x4 Race, Nautical Rally, Classic Vehicle Competition, 4 Wheeler ATV Race, Car Race Cross Country, among others.
The first competition to kick-off this new season will be the National Circuit Motor Racing Championship on Saturday, March 20.
Additional competitions are:
• The National Classic Vehicle Championship will begin on Saturday, April 17.
• The National Autocross Championship on Sunday, May 16.
• National Buggy Competition on Sunday, June 6.
• Monster Trucks National Championship will begin on Sunday, June 13.
It is expected for the Federation to provide more information on the race locations as well as ticket prices.
