Campaign to attracts tourists to Pococí begins

The municipality of Pococí Canton, in Limón Province, launched the advertising campaign "Pococí Fluye" (Pococí Flows in English) intending to promote tourism in the area.

"Pococí is a canton that captivates, it is a canton of abundance, we have a growth potential that we want to take advantage of and together with the private sector, show the world our treasures so that they visit us and fall in love with this land," Manuel Hernández, Pococí mayor said.

As part of the campaign, a promotional video showing the natural wealth of the area will be published on the municipality's social networks.

According to the Tourism Institute, three years ago the municipality began the process of developing, researching and launching the city brand "Pococí Fluye" with the support from local private companies.

The mayor said that the campaign allows Pococí to be considered as an investment destination before the world takes advantage of the opportunities and conditions offered by this territory.


The canton of Pococí, located just over an hour's drive from San José to the Caribbean Coast, has extensive wetlands and several protected areas, including Tortuguero National Park and Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge, according to the tourism institute’s webpage Visit Costa Rica.

One of the main attractions of Pococí is its location in the Costa Rican Caribbean area, which covers 5,027 square miles with 200 miles of coastline.

According to the Institute, the Costa Rican Caribbean extends from the San Juan River to the Sixaola River along the Panamanian border. In the northern sector, the main attractions involve the green tortoises nesting grounds along the beaches of the Tortuguero National Park and the Barra del Colorado National Wildlife Refuge. This area is known for sport fishing of sea bass, shad, and other species. It also includes a river system that joins the attractive port of Moín with Barra del Colorado. Its offerings are nature-based, particularly fauna observation since it is known worldwide for its bird and turtle observing activities.
