CRUSA Foundation opens contest for grants on solid waste programs

The Costa Rican USA Foundation for Cooperation, known as CRUSA, and the German development cooperation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit announced the opening of a competition to support initiatives that propose solutions for management of solid waste.
According to CRUSA, the goal is to promote the start of projects that pose solutions to problems and / or challenges, solve gaps and barriers in the treatment, collection, manufacturing / processing, sale of by-products and / or waste disposal at the level municipal or inter-municipal, through joint work between municipalities, private sector and local associations.
The contest is aimed at two categories:
The first is projects in municipalities. These are grants aimed at municipalities, groups of municipalities and/or consortiums between municipalities and the private sector that seek to solve solid waste problems at the municipal or inter-municipal level.
The second is for business innovation projects. These are non-reimbursable funds directed to small and medium enterprises and/or local associations that intend to have a positive impact on the management of solid waste in the production processes in a proven way making them more efficient through innovative solutions.

On October, CRUSA, announced the nearly $137,000 donation to
14 non-profit organizations through its Catalytic Donation Program.
According
to CRUSA, this program promotes sustainable development in communities
and the exchange of good practices among non-profit organizations and
seeks to increase the internal capacity of organizations through
innovative solutions with the potential to be shared with other
entities, replicated in other communities or taken to a larger scale.
The winners of the donations during 2019 were selected through a competitive call to which 140 organizations applied.
Of
that, 40 finalists were selected and 14 were winners, using as criteria
the innovation, scalability potential, clarity of objectives,
feasibility, budget justification and execution capacity, said CRUSA.
In
addition, those initiatives that work outside the greater metropolitan
area and those that are aligned with CRUSA's thematic priorities for
2019, such as climate change, sustainable development and human capital,
knowledge and innovation, were valued with more emphasis.
"The
CRUSA Foundation recognizes the important work that many non-profit
organizations do in communities across the country, and that is why we
invest in the most innovative ideas that allow the sustainability and
growth of organizations and their important work," said Flora
Montealegre, executive delegate of the CRUSA Foundation.
Donations
granted were up to $10,000 for each organization and are intended to
boost their growth by allowing them, for example, to invest in resources
that increase their capacity for issues such as fundraising,
communications, internal management or strategic planning.
According to CRUSA, this donation program in two years has donated about $277,000 to 30 organizations throughout the country.
Among
the winning organizations in this 2019 is, Parque TEC Incubator
Association, Avocado Producers Association and San Isidro Community
Agricultural Center, among others.
