CR-US Cultural Center jazz band will perform at California this weekend By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The North American Costa Rican Cultural Center Jazz Orchestra will perform this weekend at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California, U.S.A. According to the organizers, the festival will feature over 130 performances from iconic and emerging jazz artists, educational events, conversations, films, and exhibits on eight stages, and 30 hours of live music in two days and three nights. The Costa Rican Jazz group will perform at the festival on Saturday and Sunday. This is not the Cultural Center's jazz band's first international presentation. In April, the young musicians won first place, in the Next Generation Jazz competition, which took place at the Monterey Conference Center in California, U.S.A. At the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Costa Rican band will share the stage with famous jazz artists such as Bob James, Marcus Miller, David Sanborn, Elanie Elias, Kenny Barron, Dave Holland, among many others. The Cultural Center band is made up of 25 young Costa Rican musicians. They have performed in theaters, colleges, and auditoriums to raise funds to finance the trip to California. "We are proud because this festival features the greatest jazz figures in history and today," said Carlomagno Araya, band director. "There have been live recordings of vital importance for universal musical history."
