By A.M. Costa Rica staff On Wednesday, Alok Sharma, president of the COP26 Summit, organized by the United Kingdom, arrived in the country. The first activity of his agenda was a meeting with key government players at the Ministry of Foreign Relations. During the day, Sharma visited the Aquiares Coffee Estate farm, located in Cartago Province, which produces low-emission coffee. "Reducing emissions in the agricultural sector is a key part of the National Decarbonization Plan," the Ministry of the Environment said in its statement. After that, Sharma visited several EV stations located in the country. ![]() Sharma was appointed by the British government to lead the 26th United Nations' COP26 Summit on Climate Change, which will take place from Nov. 1-12 in Glasgow, UK. "The visit of the president of COP26 is a recognition that reaffirms the leadership of Costa Rica and its performance in areas such as decarbonization, resilience and the protection of biodiversity," the Ministry said. Costa Rica is the first country in the American continent that Sharma has visited since he was appointed as president of the Summit.
