By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Officials of the National Coast Guard Service arrested a three-person fishing boat crew as suspects of drug trafficking According to the police report, the case began on Tuesday, when the coast guard detected a fishing boat sailing 50 nautical miles from Limón Beach in Limón Province. The ship had the name "Amandita" painted on the side and displayed Costa Rican plates and flags. When the officers made a routine inspection, they found a cargo of 37 nylon bags with several packages inside. Following the guideline in cases of suspected drug trafficking, the police arrested the three crew members, a Nicaraguan man surnamed Mairena, 31, who has no criminal record in Costa Rica. The second arrest was a Costa Rican man surnamed Ayesta, 26, who has a criminal record for rape. The third arrested was another Costa Rican surnamed López, 26, who has a criminal record for threats. The crew, the ship and the cargo were towed to the Drug Control Police station in Limón Province, where a more detailed inspection of the contents of the bags was carried out.  Police determined that there were 902 packages, each weighing approximately one kilogram of cocaine. In addition to the drugs, police seized the boat, electronic equipment, a charger, nine ammunition, two 300-hp engines and four containers with fuel, as parts of the evidence in the case. The three suspects were taken before the Prosecutor's Office in Limón where they were interrogated by agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization. And are now waiting for a judge to order pre-trial measures against them for the charge of drug trafficking. A video of the arrest of the foreigners and the inspection of the cargo was released by the Ministry of Security and can be seen on the AM Costa Rica YouTube channel. This was the fourth case of a foreigner convicted of transporting cocaine in the past few days.  Last week, Coast Guard officers arrested three foreigners on suspicion of trafficking more than a ton of drugs. On July 20, a U.S. citizen surnamed Collins, 57, was arrested at the Juan Santamaría International Airport on suspicion of international drug trafficking. On July 18, Police officers from the Pococí station in Limón Province arrested a Dutch citizen man on suspicion of carrying two kilos of cocaine in his luggage. Authorities call for people to report any suspicion of drug sales or trafficking to the confidential lines 800-8000-645 or 11-76, where there are bilingual agents who can answer calls in English or Spanish. ------------------------ What should the government do to stop the illegal trafficking of drugs in the country?
