Blood donation campaign in Liberia

Authorities of the Enrique Baltodano Hospital in Liberia in Guanacaste, are calling on citizens to donate blood, during the campaign that is being carried out from today until Dec. 20.
The blood donation campaign is due to the increase in emergency room care, which usually generates more requests for blood during this month.
In addition to the special area to receive donations in the hospital, the medical team has installed two donor service stands in two places.
- At Daniel Oduber International Airport donations will be received today.
- In the Miravalles Geothermal Project building in La Fortuna, donations will be received next Wednesday.
The hospital will continue to receive donations at its Liberia facility from Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. until 12 noon.
The hospital requires at least 200 donors to ensure that the blood bank can handle emergencies during December, said microbiologist Manuel Sánchez-Chacón.
In addition to the blood bank's team of specialists, there will be more specialists and nurses working to ensure that the process is fast and safe for donors, said the hospital.
To give blood, would-be donors must be in good health, be between 18 and 65 years, have a minimum weight of 50 kilos and have a minimum height of 1.5 meters, said the hospital.
The specialists recommend that blood donors eat a basic breakfast that does not include fat or dairy.

Also, specialist of the Blood National Bank, located in the district of Zapote in San José, are receiving donors every weekday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m to noon.
