Big Wy's Brass Band has two performances in Limón By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Big Wy's Brass Band, will perform a concert today at the Limón Public Library* at 1 p.m. And then, on Saturday, as guest artists of the U.S. Embassy during the Grand Black Parade in the same city downtown. Musicians are hosted by the North American Costa Rican Cultural Center. There is no charge for either performance. "It is the first brass and funk band in Limón doing a series of free activities as part of our Promising Artists of 21st Century program," said the North American Costa Rican Cultural Center in its statement. Big Wy's Brass Band is a New Orleans style brass and funk band based out of Austin, TX. The band was originally formed in 2014 by Westlake High School students. The band members Wyatt Corder, Austin Ali, Miles Holmes, Paulo Santos, Justin Dunlap, William Wright, Thomas Wenglinski, Scott Mcintyre, Brady Knippa and Chase Ozment, visited the country in 2017 and were hosted also by the Cultural Center. In 2017, according to the band, they made their international debut by representing the U.S. at the Instituto Guatemalteco Americano at the 2017 International Jazz Festival in Guatemala. This funky ensemble has also performed other well-known events and venues in and around the Austin area, such as Carnaval Brasileiro at the Palmer Events Center, Austin Samba School, Swamp Fest, The HONKTX! 2016 and 2017, 2018 Brass Band Festivals, and the SXSW 2017 Habitat for Humanity Enviromedia Party, among others. "Since the band's formation, Big Wy's have enjoyed making music, both for themselves and for their audience," said the band in its statement. A sample of the music of Big Wy's can be seen on their YouTube channel in this link.* More information on the band's performances can be reached at the North American Costa Rican Cultural Center phone numbers (506) 2207-7549 or (506) 2207-7525. ------------------------ Could these young musicians help preserve jazz music for future generations?
