By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Public Transport Council enabled the Batsë app, similar to Uber, to request ride-hailing of the Red taxi. Batsë means “red color” in Cabécar, an the indigenous language the native ethnic of Costa Rica. This is the only platform for legal ride-hailing in Costa Rica, with other well known apps such as Uber and Didi not legalized. According to the authorities, during the first year of use of the platform, they will analyze user's ratings to make improvements on future versions. Taxi drivers will receive a 10% commission per trip requested through the app. But during the trial period drivers should continue to use the traditional collecting meter called "Maria," because not all the users will download the app. According to the Council, the advantages for the user in using Batsë are: knowing in advance who is driving the taxi, the license plate number, make and model of the vehicle, the approximate price for the service, the time to reach the destination, and the option to evaluate the service.  This app marks a big step in the modernization of the red taxi service, which employs more than 11,400 drivers, they added. Batsë can be downloaded for free on any device with internet access in the App Store, Google Play, or HUAWEI AppGallery.
