Authorities update the ban-on-driving
rule for the rest of the month

Authorities of the National Emergency Commission established the new sanitary restrictions lasting until Jan. 31, in order to contain the spread of covid-19 in the country.

On weekdays, from Monday through Friday, the ban-on-driving-rule applies from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. of the next day. After 10 p.m. all vehicles are banned. During the day time, vehicles are banned based on the last number of the license plate number, as follows:

Monday: Vehicles banned with plates ending in 1 or 2.

Tuesday: Vehicles banned with plates ending in 3 or 4.

Wednesday: Vehicles banned with plates ending in 5 or 6.

Thursday: Vehicles banned with plates ending in 7 or 8.

Friday: Vehicles banned with plates ending in 9 or 0.

On Saturdays, the ban-on-driving rule changes from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the next day. After 9 p.m. all vehicles are banned. During the day time, vehicles with plates ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 are banned.

On Sundays, the ban-on-driving applies from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. After 9 p.m. all vehicles are banned. During the day time, vehicles with plates ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 are banned.

Meanwhile, the Orange Alert for the following 26 cantons continues, according to Commision authorities:

• Alajuelita, Curridabat, Pérez Zeledón, Vázquez de Coronado, in San José Province.

• Grecia, Guatuso, Naranjo, Orotina, San Carlos, Sarapiquí, Sarchí, Zarcero, in Alajuela Province.

• Cartago Central, El Guarco and Oreamuno in Cartago Province.

• Santo Domingo and Flores in Heredia Province.

• Corredores, Golfito, Osa, and Quepos in Puntarenas Province.

• Pococí, Limón Central, Matina, Guácimo and Siquirres in Limón Province.

There are no cantons under Orange Alert in Guanacaste Province.

The updated list of cantons under Orange Alert can be read on the government's website under Covid-19/Alerta/Canton.

The new restrictions for businesses, such as restaurants, banks, shopping centers, tourist centers, among others, are listed on the government's website under Covid-19/Alerta/Establecimientos.

The Ministry of Health officials recommend for managers or business representatives with inquiries about the weekday ban on driving, business restrictions and guidelines must directly call their headquarters at (506) 2223-0333.
