Authorities deny an increase coming in rates charged to airlines

Authorities of the Technical Council of Civil Aviation said Wednesday that there is no request pending from the company Aeris to increase the rates that the airlines must pay for the use of the country's largest airport. Aeris is in charge of administering Juan Santamaría International Airport.

According to Rodolfo Solano-Quirós, president of the council, he is addressing the doubts, uncertainties and disagreements some airlines have about operating costs in Costa Rica.

Solano said the contract with the Aeris will expire in 2026 and the technical, financial and legal valuations of that company has already begun, which will allow the government to determinate the costs in tariffs for air transport companies. So there are no new approved rates.

The announcement of the council was given in response to statements by members of the International Air Transport Association, about the lack of a plan to meet the needs of the airlines in the coming years in addition to the request of the company Aeris to raise operation rates to the airlines.

"Costa Rica's airport infrastructure expansion plans do not have a long-term vision defined," said the association in its statement in October.

With this, Solano said the authorities are working on a national civil aviation plan, which includes a study on Juan Santamaria International Airport and also the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste.

The government is expected to announce a meeting between authorities of the Technical Council of Civil Aviation and members of the Air Transport Association to address the doubts about new rates or the national plan to improve airports.

So the problem is with the browser in each reader's computer. Particularly when the connection with the server is slow, a computer will look to the latest page in its internal memory and serve up that page.

Readers should refresh the page and, if necessary, dump the cache of their computer, if this problem persists. Readers in Costa Rica have this problem frequently because the local Internet provider has continual problems.

Newspages
A typical edition will consist of a front page and seven other news pages. Each of these pages can be reached by links near the bottom of the pages.

Classifieds
Classified pages are updated daily. Employment listings are free, as are listings for accommodations wanted, articles for sale and articles wanted.
