A total of 586,799 Pfizer vaccines against covid-19 have been applied since December 2020, reaching a national vaccination rate of 11.37 per 100 inhabitants, according to the statistics of the Vaccine National Information System.

There are 354,291 people who have received their first dose. And 232,508 people have completed their treatment upon receiving the second dose.

Of the 3 million doses purchased from Pfizer for $36 million, 979,485 vaccines have arrived in the country.

Another 43,200 vaccines have arrived. These are the AstraZeneca treatment, as the first cargo of one million doses purchased by the government since last year, through the COVAX system of the World Health Organization.

The country remains to finish inoculating Group-A of High Risk, which includes elderly folks living in nursing homes, nursing home employees, healthcare workers, members of the police force, firefighters and Emergency Commission workers, among others.

Group-B of High Risk remains in the same phase as Group A. Those in this group include people over the age of 58, regardless of whether or not they have any pre-existing health risk factors.

To receive the treatment, participants must have a Costa Rican ID or a residency ID, known as DIMEX specific for immigrants with resident status. They must also visit the local public clinic, known as Ebais, to be listed as a candidate for getting the treatment. People already registered in the Social Security database, known as EDUS, will be contacted by phone to register for a vaccine date.

While the vaccination campaign advances, authorities from the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday the most updated status of the covid-19 public health crisis in the country:

957 new covid-19 cases are reported, bringing the total to 26,239 current active cases.

27,676 foreign-born people have been infected as part of the 225,343 cases reported since March 2020, approximately 12.3% of the total cases. Of these, authorities confirmed the death of 32 foreign-born patients. But since October, there is no updated information about foreign-born deaths due to covid-19.

• 479 patients are being treated in public hospitals, where 221 patients are in ICUs in delicate health conditions. And 258 patients are in recovery rooms. Many of the remaining infected patients are quarantined in their homes.

• 196, 060 patients have fully recovered, an 87% recovery rate of the total cases.

842,015 covid-19 tests have been conducted in Costa Rica, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University in the U.S.
