The National Emergency Commission delivered food packages to 4,467 families living in indigenous territories in the cantons of Talamanca, Matina, Limón Centro and Turrialba, which were somewhat destroyed by massive floods in July. Those four cantons are part of the 14 zones that were declared under Presidential Decree of National Emergency over damages caused by week-long thunderstorms last month. In Talamanca, 3,500 food packages were delivered in coordination with the indigenous associations of the zone. In Matina, 400 food packages were delivered to the indigenous sectors of Las Palmeras, Chumico, San Rafael and Alto Almirante. Last week 567 food packages were also delivered to families living in the indigenous communities of Telire, Valle la Estrella and Matina. The food was delivered in 106 flights by helicopters donated by the United States government to the Air Surveillance Service in 2019. ![]() According to the National Emergency Commission, thanks to the three continuous days of helicopter flights it was possible to enter the most remote indigent areas, such as Guayabal, Arco Iris Xacava, Cartago, Batubata, Sitio Rangalle, San José Cabécar, among others. The helicopter flights will continue this week to 34 indigenous areas such as Karku, China Kicha, Jamo, Jakue, Bukeri, Xiquiari, among others, to advance with the delivery of food to people who were affected by the floods. Authorities set up a unique and official Google form, Humanitarian Aid Offering site, to coordinate donations. Donors must include their contact information and indicate the type of donation, such as: food, clothing, health products, transportation, among others. Once form is submitted, officers authorized by the Commission will be in contact to coordinate the delivery of the donations. Donations of food, medicine kits and clothes will be collected at all 216 Walmart supermarkets across the country. As well as in the malls Avenida Escazú, City Mall, Escazú Village, Lincoln Plaza, Mall Multicentro, Mall San Pedro, Mango Plaza, Multiplaza Curridabat, Multiplaza Escazú, Oxygen, Paseo de las Flores, Paseo Metrópoli, Plaza Bratsi, Plaza Real, Terrazas Lindora and Terramall. ------------------------ What have you heard of people affected by the massive floods?
