After playing in Disneyland,  Zarcero Band is ready for Rose parade

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

Last week, the 250 young musicians, members of the Municipal Band of  the city of Zarcero, traveled to California to perform at the Rose Parade in Pasadena.

Before that presentation, which will be Wednesday, the teens performed at the Bands Fest in California Friday and on Saturday at the Disneyland parade.

Most of the band members are from the city and canton of Zarcero in Alajuela. It is a community with a population of 4,277, according to the municipality.

In the Rose Parade, the band will march in place 39, which means that it will be approximately halfway through the entire parade. The parade will be televised by local and international channels, starting at 10 a.m. Costa Rica time.

The band will video streaming the part of its presentation on its Facebook page.

“In Pasadena, we will present Costa Rican music and, also, the bright Latin feeling. We want to show that Costa Ricans, and in general the Latin people, are cheerful," said Elesban Rodríguez, director of the band.

The slogan of the presentation of the band in Pasadena is “We are Costa Ricans,” which will exhibit the pride of the musicians about the culture, music, and traditions of Costa Ricans.

According to Rodríguez, participation in the Rose Parade has opened many doors for the group, so the band has already received invitations for presentations in México and Colombia.

This is not the first international presentation made by the band. In 2018 it was present at the Giulianova International Festival in Italy. In 2017 the young musicians were at the Central American Parade in Los Angeles, California. In 2013 and 2017, the band was at the Parade of Central American Bands in Panamá.

Zarcero Municipality Band is the third Costa Rican band that has participated in the Rose Parade. The second one was the Band of the Arts Conservatory from Cartago in 2005. The second was the Municipality Band of Acosta in January this year.

The Acosta Municipal Band presentation at Rose Parade in January this year can be seen on the municipality's YouTube channel site.

The Rose Parade, hosted by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses will be televised on ABC, NBC, Univision (in Spanish), HGTV, Sky TV, and Hallmark Channel.

ABC serves as the official broadcaster of the parade, and its sister network ESPN currently airs the Rose Bowl football game. The parade and the game always are on New Year's Day each year.

In Costa Rica, the parade will be televised in all local television channels.
