Music, dances, traditional Caribbean food, and the grand parade will come to an end this weekend. The activities that will take place this weekend are: - Today at 9 a.m. the "Black Food & Dessert Exhibition" of Caribbean foods and desserts will be showcased at the Thomas Benjamin Lynch Public Library of Limón*, located downtown. - Also today at 7 p.m. in Los Baños Park, in the center of Limón*, a concert “Calipso Moonlight”, with bands Cocotea Roots & Culture, The New Revelation, Shanty and his Calypso, Di Gud Frendz, Chakra and his hot calypso, as well as the Limón Concert Band with four calypsonians: Cirilo Silván, Johhny Dixon, Julio Medina, and Lenn Ning. - Saturday will be the Grand Parade, which starts at 12 p.m. in the Asís Esna park*, in the center of Limón. As A.M. Costa Rica previously reported, in April 2018, congress declared the month of August as the month of the Afro-descendant, to promote the heritage and cultural values of the Afro-Costa Rican community. Afro-descendant or Afro-Caribbean is the shortened ethnicity term of African-Caribbean, which refers to the ethnicity and cultural heritage of Caribbean people whose ancestors were taken from Africa. This year, the government announced the month's celebration is dedicated to Paralympic athlete Sherman Guity. ![]() Almost two years ago, Sherman Guity had a traffic accident that resulted in the amputation of his left foot. Guity recently qualified for the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, the Dubai 2019 World Athletics Championships, and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. More information about these activities can found at the Ministry of Culture's office at 2221 2154 or its site here.* ---------------------------- Have you visited Limón during the Afro-Costa Rican Culture celebration?
