Black Friday online purchases could be free deliveries |
|
![]() By A.M. Costa Rica
staff
The government company for online purchases and emails, Correos de Costa Rica, is offering free shipping of online purchases during Black Friday. According to Correos de Costa Rica, all online sales companies which are registered in the Pymexpress program will not charge delivery service throughout the country. The Pymexpress program seeks to help small businesses that sell their products online, making alliances and promotions for customers. This Black Friday all purchases made in this platform will be delivered free by Correos. In addition, all companies that are not yet affiliated and wish to use the free delivery services, have time to join until the night of Black Friday. According to Pymespress, the free deliveries would be made on Saturday, November 24 in San José, and on Monday, November 26 in the rest of the country. The Commercial Manager of Correos de Costa Rica, Jorge Solano Méndez, indicated that this initiative, in addition to motivating consumers to buy products locally, hopes to encourage Costa Rican companies to make attractive offers for Black Friday since they can offer the free shipping as a hook for selling products. "At a time when there is so much uncertainty regarding devaluation and the country's economy, we want Costa Ricans to have attractive shopping options in Costa Rica and to buy products from local online stores, thus supporting Costa Rican entrepreneurship and avoiding exposing ourselves to changes in the price of the dollar. We want the money from those purchases to remain in the country," said Solano. Pymexpress is a platform created to support small businesses that sell their products on the internet. Currently, more than 1,000 small companies are registered to offer their products online and distribute them to their customers through Correos. |

A.M. Costa Rica staff
The Deputy Prosecutor's Office against Drug Trafficking and Related Crimes carried out more than 10 raids in different areas of Guacimo, Puriscal, Cariari and Heredia on Wednesday. The raids resulted in the capture of 11 suspects who were taken to the Carlos Luis Fallas Institutional Attention Center, known as the Pococí prison. According to the police report, among the detainees are "five officers of the Penitentiary Police, surnamed: Brenes Vega, Paguaga Jiménez, Anzora Salazar, Jiménez Sandoval and Rivera González (the latter had recently resigned), and one of the prisoners, surnamed Camacho Chaves, is alleged to be part of the group." Investigators report that, since April 2017, the suspects formed a criminal organization that dedicated itself to the supply and distribution of drugs such as marijuana and cocaine. They delivered the drugs to areas around the prison and later distributed them inside the prison with the help of the officers. In addition to the five officers and the prisoner, police arrested six people suspected of delivering the drugs to the area around the prison.

Letter to Readers: Illicit enrichment in the public service |
|
![]() By A.M. Costa Rica staff
Dear A.M. Costa Rica readers: ‘Elías Soley, president of AmCham, states that “excluding from the scope of this law, crimes such as corruption and illicit enrichment in the public service,” is inexcusable.’ From a person's perspective who has been in and out of Costa Rica for more than 25 years, the land of smiles has further descended into the pit of greed. Greed is what creates illicit enrichment. We all know that illicit enrichment in the public service (code for thieving politicians) is financially crippling. But thievery is the symptom - not the disease. The disease is the erosion of agricultural values. A culture in balance and looking to tomorrow’s harvests while carefully tending what you have. Costa Rican politicians should learn from these values instead of spending to build what they later cannot maintain. It's not only what a person can build that counts, it's what you can maintain that creates stability. Costa Rica is blessed with stunning natural resources but in my experience, you can sum up Tico cultural as one that takes what's on the table now and thinks little of the future. Example: look at how many municipalities trim their trees. Rather than lacing them out so they grow back faster, strong and full, the municipal workers simply hack the main branches and trunk leaving a weakened tree that has to use all it resources just to survive, rather than grow in strength and beauty. Does that not sound like Tico bureaucracy? Hacking at the treasury rather than looking to spend in way that maintains what we have and strengthens the nation. They have no morality. That is why legislators would Never agree to keep illicit enrichment in the public service as part of the law of Domain Extinction (another stupid euphemism for confiscation) - as they are the ones in public service illegally enriching themselves! Think about it. |

Ministry

This further proves that thievery is entrenched and that politicians do not deserve the public respect - to the contrary they should be seen as the corrupt perpetrators of public misery that they are. Next time you see a politician rather than calling them don(a) so-and-so, ask them why they haven't included illicit enrichment as part of the law of domain extinction. Then look them in the eye and spit on the ground. Seriously. According to the report of the Venezuelan immigration police, known as the Bolivarian National Guard, two men, one Spanish and the other Costa Rican, were detained at the Maiquetía Airport when they tried leave that country with two gold ingots hidden in their luggage. Two officers of the Special Anti-Drug Unit report that "two men identified with the surnames Rivera Blanco (Costa Rican) and García Moreno (Spanish) carried two gold ingots, not reported in the control terminal and hidden in their luggage.” Rivera and Garcia intended to board flight 8595 Estelar airline to Madrid, Spain. The report states that, during a routine review, officers detected a weight problem with the suitcases and sent the luggage to an X-ray machine. The X-ray showed two unusual objects in the suitcases. A canine unit was brought in to determine if the objects were dangerous and the suitcases were opened. According to the police report, "foreigners can travel with articles or jewelry as long as they do not exceed the weight allowed by law, equivalent to 285 grams." |
