Chile's president will make official visit to Costa Rica Monday |

Dobles will host the official visit Monday
of Sebastián Piñera, president of
Chile, and his wife, Cecilia Morel.
The reception will take place in the Presidential House in the morning. "This will be the first time that both leaders meet and represents an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the presidents who recently took office to continue with the political dialogue, the agreements reached on cooperation and the promotion of trade relations," according to a statement released by Presidential House. "During the visit of the president of Chile to Costa Rica, opportunities will be explored to continue with the bilateral dialogue, inspired by the strengthening of democracy, the full promotion of human rights and individual liberties, the struggle for peace and disarmament, as well as the protection of the environment and the pursuit of human development," an announcement added. Other topics that will be addressed in the meeting are related to urban mobility and the cooperation agenda between the two countries. |

Foreign investment continues its decline in Latin America amid tensions |

"In Latin America and the Caribbean, foreign investment fell by 3.6 percent per year. Foreign investment flows are reduced, and restructuring is being made towards manufacturing and services," said Bárcena. During the presentation of the annual foreign investment report report, which took place in México, the representative of the agency said that the most pronounced fall in foreign investment occurred in developed economies such as the United States and the United Kingdom. The report added that the decline was widespread in the world due to trade tensions and nationalist industrial policies which increase uncertainty, according to the commission. There is a great heterogeneity between countries because if Argentina, Haiti or Guyana had large increases in investments last year, countries like Chile, Brazil or Mexico suffered falls, according to the document. In addition, there are very volatile investment inflows to Caribbean countries, the document adds. Foreign direct investment fell by 48 percent in Chile, 9.7 percent in Brazil and 8.8 percent in Mexico. In contrast, in Colombia it grew by 0.5 percent per year, and Bárcena pointed out that the nation was able to diversify its investments, when a decade ago it only reached the oil sector. Positively, Central American foreign investment closed 2017 with eight years of consecutive increases, and reached $13 billion, based on manufacturing. The continued fall is largely explained by lower prices for commodities which significantly reduced investments in extra-active industries and the economic recession of 2015-2016, said the report. |

Currently citizens do not have a way to follow uptax cheating they report. The Comptroller's Office ordered the Ministry of Finance to design, disseminate and implement a standard procedure for citizen complaints by May 2019 at the latest. "The Treasury must implement a unique and electronic information system for the reception and follow-up of complaints, and enact a comprehensive procedure for the citizen complaint process related to tax offenses and improper performance of public officers," added the report.

Musician’s latest single seeks to rescue the Creole language of Limón |

The
group Di Gud Frendz released a new
single, "Fiesta," a musical fusion of
Creole, calypso, reggae and dance hall
as a tribute to the old Limón province
and to encourage an understanding on how
the meetings of friends and family were
celebrated with this music.
The song talks about how the activities in Limón were organized, where people would never miss the domino game, the rondón dish, the good music and, of course, the dance. Mike Joseph, who is the singer-songwriter, emphasizes that he was inspired by his childhood and the memories of seeing his grandmother putting meetings together. "It was in my childhood and it was very funny, so one afternoon I grabbed my guitar and started to compose. I started remembering my grandmother's words because I decided to sing it in Creole. I thought very well about the chords so that it would have a traditional calypso rhythm, but with the new reggae and dance hall trends, and that's how I got what is now “Fiesta," said the artist. The single was recorded between October 2017 and May 2018, produced thanks to a project of the Cultural Identity, Art and Technology Program of the National University of Costa Rica and led by Professor Edgar León and produced by Daniel Solano, Andrés Cervilla de the Infibeat national band. |

Guanacaste Band celebrates the Nicoya annexation |

The musical performances of the Concert Band of Guanacaste will commemorate the 194th anniversary of the incorporation of the Nicoya into Costa Rica. There will be presentations at Upala, in Alajuela, La Cruz, Liberia, and Santa Cruz in Guanacaste, as well as in downtown San José. The band will offer four concerts commemorating that on July 25, 1824, the people of Nicoya decided to join Costa Rica instead of Nicaragua. The musical offerings include works such as: "Vals del Recuerdo," "Nocturno," and "Alá en la hacienda" by Jesús Bonilla Chavarría, "Las Tres Pampas," "El Punto Guanacasteco," and "He ahorrado," all arranged by Ronald Estrada, as well as "Amanecer Guanacasteco" by Roberto Cantillano. Two men shot in Limón |

Judicial agents from the Regional Office of Batan are investigating the circumstances under which two men, 39 and 48, were shot Thursday morning in Cuatro Millas de Matina in the province of Limón According to a preliminary report, the incident took place at 2 a.m., when the two men, who apparently worked as security guards on an area farm, were intercepted by two individuals on a motorcycle. Robbery was the apparent motive. One of the victims suffered a leg wound while the other was hit in the left arm. Both were taken to the Limón Hospital. The suspects apparently managed to get away with the belongings of the men, as well as their firearms. According to the Ministry of Public Security, a short time later police officers of Siquirres were alerted of the presence of two possibly wounded men in a house. |
