-Published: Wednesday, January 8, 2020- By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The government, through the Ministry of Public Works, announced the beginning of the process for the construction of two overpasses in the Province of Cartago, financed with a loan of more than $57 million from the Inter-American Bank. The construction is valued at $57,973,229 financed by the bank. "It contemplates the construction of two overpasses with six lanes in the case of the city of Taras and four in the city of La Lima, " said the ministry of the project in its statement. According to the ministry, the overpasses in these cities will be developed by the company H. Solís-Estrella. The goal of this project is "to make traffic on the Florencio del Castillo highway more fluid, both for those traveling to Cartago and for those heading to the south of Turrialba," said the ministry. According to Tomás Figueroa from the ministry, works are programmed to begin in the second half of this year. The construction period is expected to last 28 months. It is estimated the jobs will be ready in 2023. The project also includes improvements along 2.8 kilometers of the road between Taras with La Lima, including the construction of accesses and exits to the marginal, turns, sidewalks, bus bays and bike paths at different points. In the city of Taras, the overpass will have three lanes per direction with widths of 3.3 meters, road edges 1.2 meters wide and sidewalks 2 meters wide. It will have a second step with a traffic circle towards the San Nicolás de Cartago community. In the city of La Lima, the overpass will have four lanes, two in each direction to exit or enter through the center of Cartago. Also, two will have elevated lanes, one per direction, to maintain continuous traffic on the south Interamerican Highway, located between La Lima and El Guarco. Also, 2.8 kilometers road between the two cities will be rebuilt to make it more functional and in accordance with the infrastructure of the main two overpasses, according to the plans. According to the ministry, 40,000 vehicles per day travel along the road between La Lima and Taras. -------------------------- What roads need repairs in your community?
