The National Emergency Commission announced a budget of $3,085,111 to address emergencies caused by nonstop thunderstorms in July.

According to the commission, throughout the country, there have been numerous emergency calls about overflowing rivers, tree falls, flooding, landslides, power grid failures, destroyed houses, among others.



In July, it was enacted the Presidential Decree of National Emergency in 14 cantons over damages of storms that have been the strongest rains recorded in the country since 1978.

The authorities continue to process hiring companies that provide cleaning services with tractors and special vehicles to repair river bends, roads, removal of trees, removal of landslides among other works.

According to Alexander Solís, president of the Commission, "with the hiring of companies, the assurance of hydraulic works that were damaged during the last floods, the opening of roads to enter communities, the transit of agricultural products in these areas is expected. And also reestablish the roads for ambulances, transit of students, people who go to their jobs or their medical appointments."



The commission reports having delivered food packages to more than 19,000 people, who live in the communities affected by the rains.


In the indigenous territories, officers of the Air Surveillance Service, SVA, brought food by helicopters donated by the U.S. government.



This week, the National Emergency Commission alerted about  the Tropical Wave #28 which could be hitting Costa Rica in the middle of the week.
