$23 million for the road between San
José and San Ramón
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
Thursday, the Ministry of Public Works
announced it was beginning the hiring
process for the companies that will be
responsible for the construction of the
highway expansion between the
province of San José* and the
town of San Ramón* in the
province of Alajuela.
The $23 million investment will be
financed by the Ministry's resources.
According to the Ministry, it is
expected that during the last quarter of
this year, the design for the
construction of the bridges over the
Segundo River, Alajuela River, and
Ciruelas River will be completed.
The next phase will be the hiring of the
company responsible for the design and
construction of the extension of the
bridge over the Torres River and the
improvement of tolls near to the towns
of Río Segundo and Naranjo. The second
phase is expected to be published in the
last quarter of this year.
In the third stage, the Ministry will
proceed to hire the company that will
make other minor improvements along the
road. They expect to hire the company in
charge of those works in 2020.
According to the Ministry, 115,000
vehicles per day are active on this
road.
Related to the most recent roads
improvements as A.M. Costa Rica reported
on Sept 11th, the Ministry announced
during September the painting of
vertical signage would begin on the
Inter-American Highway, for 11 miles
between the communities of Chararita and
Rio Esquinas.

This area is located on the border
between the districts of Golfito* and Gamba*.
These
road improvements cost $2,065,261, which
includes new sewers and a new layer of
asphalt.
"We call on drivers to be attentive when
we are painting in the coming days, and
thus reduce the risk of accidents," said
the traffic police in their statement.
According to the authorities, painting
to demarcate traffic signals will be
done with thermoplastic paint. This
paint has the capacity to last three
years. They will also install reflectors
on the pavement.
According to the Ministry of
Transportation, this painting is the
final phase of the road improvement
projects that began in August 2018.
