Paseo Maritimo was the first to get an upgrade with a promenade along the beach exclusively for people in wheelchairs. ![]() According to the Municipality of Esparza, who are in charge of building the 65-meter-long ramps to access the beach, they also built special restrooms for visitors in wheelchairs and parking for vehicles that transport people in wheelchairs. They also purchased amphibious chairs unique for use on the shores of the beach. According to the municipality, the construction of the wheelchair accessible promenade cost $36,000 financed with the institution's budget. It includes a 65-meter ramp, 3 amphibious chairs, restrooms, a parking lot and a warehouse for the Red Cross. This is the first accessible beach in Esparza Canton, Mayor Asdrúbal Calvo said. Also, in Caldera Port, they inaugurated 600 meters of improved breakwater and ships port. ![]() According to the Ministry of Public Works, the improvements to the breakwater and the port area were valued at $12.4 million. These two major improvements are part of a $450 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank, used to finance the constructions carried out by the ministry.
