$10 million-plus budgeted for
infrastructure improvements in Limón By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Province Port Management Board, known as JAPDEVA, announced that despite the economic crisis due to the pandemic, $10.5 million to be used for infrastructure improvements in Limón Province. According to JAPDEVA, this capital comes from the income generated by the Moín Port services to importers and exporters. Structural improvements in the province have the goal of attracting investors and increasing tourism, such as repairs in the Sixaola Market and the financing of a regulatory plan for the coastal zone, another similar plan for Guacimo Canton and infrastructure improvements in Matina park, authorities said. In addition, JAPDEVA announced that another possible budget will be established to make improvements at the Limón International Airport, the Cahuita and the South Caribbean decks and the expansion of some of the bridges. According to the government, the first works on infrastructure will begin in 2021, with the expectation of hiring 495 workers. Recently, the government announced an investment of more than $6 million for sports facilities in Limón.  The Ministry of Sports announced an investment of $6,456,962 in improvements and construction of sports facilities in the province. According to Hernán Solano-Vengas, Minister of Sports, the investment involves a series of projects financed with resources from the Costa Rican Sports Institute and the Rural Development Institute. "The goal is to guarantee real access to opportunities for sports, recreation and physical activity," Solano said. According to the institute, the capital would be invested in the following projects: • At the Limón Stadium, approximately $1,073,000 will be invested in repairs and maintenance of the synthetic field, the electrical system, the soccer field and the dressing rooms. • In the Cariari sports park, $3,024,338 will be invested in repairing ramps for wheelchairs, sidewalks, rainwater system, lighting, park area, electrical system, soccer field, handball field, beach volleyball area, an amphitheater, reconstruction of trails, construction of elevated wooden access to the park's pools, remodeling of offices, reconstruction of the Casona, shower modules, among others. • At the Apa Blu Presbere Sports Gym, approximately $828,332 will be invested in the construction of a gym. • In the Guacimo gym, the Bribri Territory Development Association donated the land, and the ministry will invest approximately $840,094 to rebuild the gym. • At the Pococí Sports Center, approximately $672,075 will be invested in improvements to the facilities, the swimming pool, the athletic track and the lighting system. • In the Suretka park, in Talamanca, approximately $18,482 will be invested in the purchase and installation of 13 exercise machines.
