The Massachusetts, U.S.A.-headquartered, Hologic, Inc., a global medical technology announced the expansion of its operations in Costa Rica.

According to the firm, they are opening its Cybersecurity Operations Center (SOC). The hub, which will serve as the company's primary cyber incident response command center, is the first of its kind for Costa Rica’s life sciences sector.

The SOC is an integral part of the Global Information Technology (IT) Shared Services Center. It will monitor, detect and respond to cyber threats that may affect Hologic, its employees, clients and other strategic partners.

“In addition to Hologic’s valuable experience obtained with other operations in the country, our company selected Costa Rica as the headquarters of the SOC due to the talented workforce and the investment that the government makes in continuing education programs on cybersecurity," said Paul Malenchini, Hologic’s Chief Information Officer. "Apart from Costa Rica’s proximity to the United States, where our company's headquarters are located, this strategic hub allows us to respond effectively to the dynamic cyber threat landscape and align cybersecurity efforts with the business goals of the company.”

These operations will take place on the same Hologic campus located in the Coyol Free Zone of Alajuela.

The company’s presence in Costa Rica started with a medical device manufacturing focus that has broadened to encompass gynecologic and breast health, then grew with the creation of an international Financial Shared Services Center and now expands further with the global IT services. Altogether, Hologic employs about 1,100 people in the country.

Hologic’s Global IT Shared Services Center currently has 34 team members, including those from the SOC. The company intends to add 40 more professionals who have experience in areas like cybersecurity, infrastructure, IT support, process automation and IT commercial.

Professionals interested in joining Hologic's Global IT Shared Services Center, including the SOC, should visit the company website.

Hologic is one of many U.S. firms hiring in Costa Rica. Recently, Intel announced the growth of its operations in Costa Rica.

Even though new businesses are creating jobs in Costa Rica, unemployment remains at 7.9%, according to the National Employment Survey. Data recorded from February to April 2024 shows more than 185,000 people without registered jobs. Of these, 103,000 are men, making up 55% of the unemployed people in the country.
