Applying for a U.S. student visa just got a little more affordable for Costa Ricans, announced the U.S. Embassy.

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy secured a waiver of the $43 reciprocity fee previously required in addition to the application fee for Costa Ricans applying for an "F student visa."

Costa Ricans who wish to apply for that type of visa to study in the U.S. must only pay the $185 visa processing fee.

The exemption benefits those pursuing full-time international academic studies under an "F student visa." This can be primary, secondary, or university studies in a private school, seminary, conservatory, or other academic institutions, including language training programs.

All other visa fees remain unchanged.

Recently, the Embassy warned about fake work visa offers in the United States which are a new scam that the Fraud Prosecutor's Office is investigating and cost the victims thousands of dollars.

Last year, Costa Rican authorities announced that the country was moving closer to the U.S. Global Entry program.  This is after the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) signed a Joint Statement of Cooperation to formally initiate negotiations to include Costa Rica in the Global Entry foreign partner countries, an initiative that expedites entry procedures into U.S. ports of entry.

Which other country should offer benefits for Costa Rican student travelers?
