The Municipal Council of
the Cóbano District, in the Nicoya Peninsula, Puntarenas Province, announced the construction of a water park with the United States support.

The first public amusement park in the district was budgeted at $40,000 and it will feature water play facilities such as pools, slides, splash pads, and playgrounds, among other amenities.

"The park project is part of the U.S. Embassy's Sembramos Seguridad (or Let's Sow Security) program, aimed at promoting harmony among residents and preventing violence," said Council Mayor Ronny Montero.

"The new theme park will also generate funds from ticket sales, which will go toward community projects," Montero added.

The Sembremos Seguridad program, coordinated by the U.S. Embassy, the central government, local governments, and communities, aims to strengthen community security and combat the influence of organized crime through academic, sports, artistic, and cultural programs, according to the embassy statement.

Authorities expect to inaugurate the theme park in 2026.

Last year, the U.S. Embassy announced
the "Juntos por Puntarenas" (Together for Puntarenas) initiative, jointly with the government of Costa Rica, in Puntarenas. The program aims to improve security and prosperity in the province. Investments are nearly $11 million in security assistance, as well as economic and educational programs.

Recently, the U.S. Embassy donated about $1.8 million to the Ministry of Public Security to refurbish one of the country's largest Coast Guard patrol vessels.
