The
combined jackpots for the two top U.S.
lotteries, Mega
Millions® and
Powerball®
have surpassed $440 million as
anticipation builds for this weekend’s
drawings.
Both
lotteries continue to attract widespread
interest as players aim for their chance
at life-changing prizes.
The first drawing, Mega Millions, is set for tonight, Friday, Jan. 17, 2025. The jackpot is estimated at $113 million, with a cash option of $50 million.
Tickets
for Mega Millions can be purchased on
the lottery’s official website by
U.S. residents.
The Mega Millions prize continues to grow after no ticket matched all six numbers in the Tuesday, Jan. 14, drawing. The winning numbers were 4, 14, 35, 49, 62, and the gold Mega Ball 6, with a 3X Megaplier.
The
Powerball drawing follows on Saturday,
Jan. 18, 2025, with an even larger
jackpot of $331 million or a cash
option of $147 million.
International
participants can play Powerball and
other lotteries through The Lotter
website.
Powerball’s jackpot climbed after no one hit all six numbers in the Wednesday, Jan. 15, drawing. The winning numbers were 8, 41, 52, 53, 58, and the red Powerball 7, with a 3X Power Play multiplier.
The jackpot grows until it is won. Players win a prize by matching one of the 9 ways to win. The jackpot is won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball. Powerball costs about $2 per play. To play, people should select five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls, then select one number between 1 and 26 for the red Powerball. People can choose the numbers on a play slip or let the lottery terminal randomly pick the numbers. Jackpot winners may choose to receive their prize as an annuity, paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years, or a lump-sum payment. Both advertised prize options are before federal and jurisdictional taxes.
