The Massachusetts-based Thermo Fisher Scientific, a biotechnology and life sciences sector company, announced the growth of its operations in Costa Rican, resulting in new employment opportunities.



According to the firm, the expansion response to the growing global demand for its products and services, allowing the opening of 120 new vacancies in various areas, such as Customer Service, Financial Analysis, Purchasing, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Credit and Collections, and Information Technology.

 

Our Costa Rican operations, via the shared services center, increased the agility of our financial processes, by implementing standards and eliminating redundancies; this has been fundamental to improving our business in the North American market," said Francisco Maroto, Senior Human Resources Manager. "It is precisely this continued reason that allows us to grow by another 120 new employment opportunities, and we hope there will be more in 2025.

Even though new businesses are creating jobs in Costa Rica, unemployment remains at 7.9%, according to the National Employment Survey. Data recorded from February to April 2024 shows more than 185,000 people without registered jobs. Of these, 103,000 are men, making up 55% of the unemployed people in the country.



Thermo Fisher Scientific is one of many U.S. firms hiring in Costa Rica. Recently, the California-headquartered Intel announced the opening of additional job positions.
