Many amusing activities are happening this weekend, including concerts, plays, festivals, cultural events and shows among many others. Kindly inform us of any weekend events taking place in your community by sending an email to news@amcostarica.com.










On Friday


 


The traditional Christmas Festival will take place at the Children's Museum in San José. The free entry events kick off at 1 p.m. with games, dance shows, and band concerts. The extravaganzas will continue with a Christmas Musical Show in the evening. The cherry on top is the much-anticipated Christmas Light Show, which begins at 7 p.m.





The Diesel Rock Band is playing rock music from the 60s and 70s at Stereo Caníbal Pub in Belen Canton, Heredia. The concert starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets for $15 are available at the venue's box office.












On Friday and Saturday





The drama "Salem Witches," will take place at the 1887 Theater, in San José. The show is based on Arthur Miller's 1953 drama "The Crucible" and features the National Theater Workshop. The play starts at 7 p.m. Admission is a non-warlike toy for youngsters aged 0 to 12, which does not require batteries and arrives unwrapped. Make a reservation by calling 8686-5913 or 8847-0821. This play is for adults only.










On Friday and Sunday


 



Rossen Milanov will lead Beethoven's Violin Concerto in San Jose's National Theater, featuring U.S. violinist Aubree Oliverson and the National Symphony Orchestra. He is currently the main conductor of the U.S. Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the U.S. Princeton Symphony Orchestra. The program includes S. Rachmaninov's Symphony No. 2 and L.V. Beethoven's Violin Concerto. On Friday, the show starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the program begins at 10:30 a.m. Tickets range from $12 to $35 and may be purchased at the theater's box office or website.









 




On Saturday



The Stone Dive Rock Band is performing 90s rock band music at AlmaZú Club in Plaza Roseto Escazu in San José. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the venue's box office.



The Mustang 65 Rock Band, is playing a rock music concert from the 60s and 70s at the London Room Pub in Sabana Canton, San José. The show begins at 8 p.m. Ticket is $20 at the venue's box office.



The Tortugas Rock Band concert at Jazz Cafe Pub in Escazu, San José. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Ticket is $15 at the venue's box office.









On Saturday and Sunday


The Electric Animals Oneiro Electronic Music Festival will be held at the Convention Center in Heredia. The show begins at 3 p.m. Tickets priced between $65 and $80 are available on the Star Ticket website.




The Eugene O'Neill Theater in San José is presenting the production "The Nutcracker," inspired by the 1892 two-act classical ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The shows begin at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets for $24 are available on the theater's website.







On Sunday



The San Jose's National Theater portrays the Nativity Scene Show presentation inspired by Jesus' birth, with Christmas Choirs. The pet-friendly, free event begins at 5 p.m.




The Costa Rica International Arts Fest (FNA2024), organized by the Ministry of Culture, will take place at the Democracy Square in downtown San José. The free and pet-friendly event will begin at 6 p.m. The Festival website provides a schedule of all free shows.




The Lucho Barahona Theater in downtown San José is now showing "The Grinch" inspired by the iconic character of the 1957 children's book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" created by children's author and cartoonist Dr. Seuss. The performance begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 at the theater box office.





This weekend



The National Theater Company will host various Christmas Shows. The drama "Bells and Acorns" will be performed at San José's Granadilla School on Friday at 10 a.m. On Saturday at 5:30 p.m., the play "The Best Gift" will be performed at the Augusto Thiel Park in San Jerónimo District, Moravia Canton, San José. Also on Saturday, at 6 p.m., the play "Messing up Christmas" will be performed in  Barreal Canton Sports Plaza, Heredia. The play "The Best Gift" will be performed at Campo Ferial La Perla in Mercedes Norte Canton, Heredia, on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The shows are pet-friendly and free admission.



The San José Municipality's Christmas Market will be held at the National Park in downtown San José. More than 100 entrepreneurs will take part in the event, offering items such as toys, souvenirs, leather clothing, and jewelry, among others. There will also be activities for children, live Christmas music performances, food trucks, and a Christmas tree lighting show. The free entry and pet-friendly market opens at 9 a.m. 



The "Fuentes-Gasca Circus" will perform at the Colono Construccion facilities in Limon City. Trapeze artists, music, dance, jugglers, clowns, and magic are among the entertainment options featured in the event. The circus performs three daily shows, at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $6 at the circus box office.


 



The Lucho Barahona Theater in downtown San José is now showing "The Mummy," a funny performance with the comedian characters Juan Vainas and Chibolo. The play, based on a Halloween story, seeks to answer the following question: what would you do if you discovered a sarcophagus buried in your backyard? Friday and Saturday, the performance starts at 8 p.m. Sunday's show begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the theater box office.


 



"Suegras Barbaras," or "Crazy Mothers-in-Law," is a comedy performance playing in the Triciclo Theater, in downtown San José. It is a comedy about a couple on vacation who, due to an unexpected circumstance, must travel with their mother-in-law. On Friday and Saturday, the show starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the comedy begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available at the theater box office.






The comedy play "No Job, No Money" is playing at the Molière Theater in downtown San José. The comedy follows a group of friends who must go to crazy lengths to make ends meet. On Friday and Saturday, the show starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the comedy begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at the theater box office.





Libertad Park Club in Desamparados in San José presents activities for teenagers such as painting, dance, music, sports and arts. The free and pet-friendly event begins at 9 a.m.





Children's Museum in downtown San José features special activities for kids. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Tickets $3 are available on the museum's website





Tours are available at the Wildlife Rescue Center in Barrio San José District in Alajuela. The animal sanctuary and wildlife conservation center tours include botanical gardens and more than 125 species of rescued animals including sloths, monkeys, jaguars, tapir, birds, and reptiles. They cannot be released back to their natural habitat. Tickets are $30 or $15 per child available on the center's website.







Tours are available at Kids Saving the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary in Quepos Beach, Puntarenas. The non-profit organization is home to nearly 50 animals that cannot be released back into the wild. Ticket is $10. Make reservations by emailing Chip@kstr.org or calling 8827-8243.







Experience the arrival of sea turtles at Ostional National Park in Guanacaste, beginning at 6:30 a.m. with an expert guide from the Ostional Tourist Guides Association. Tour price $8.




Games for children, playgrounds and pools are available at Punta Pirata Beach Club in Puntarenas City, Puntarenas. Doors open at 8 a.m. Ticket is $16.



Free swimming, Zumba, aerobics, sports games, fitness and diving are among many other courses at Ojo de Agua Water Park in San Antonio Belen, Heredia. The club includes a parking area, restaurant, several swimming pools for adults and a swimming pool area for children, a playground, tennis areas, basketball areas and a soccer field. The place opens at 7:30 a.m. Ticket is $3. 








Kalambu Hot Springs Water Park in La Fortuna, Alajuela, offers more than 10 aquatic activities and hot spring pools. The park opens at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8 or $13 including lunch. Free for children under 4 years old.



Go ride hopping at the Parque de Diversiones in La Uruca, San José. The amusement park has more than 17 rides such as roller coasters, carousels, twists and bumper cars among many others. Enjoy their food court zone and picnic area. The park opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $11. For more information visit the park's website.












System of Conservation Areas invites visitors to the Chirripó National Parks in Cartago and Limon, Poás Volcano in Alajuela, Tortuguero in Limon, San Lucas Island in Puntarenas, Irazú Volcano in Cartago and Manuel Antonio Beach in Puntarenas. Make reservations on the organization's website.




Guanacaste Conservation Area invites visitors to both the Santa Rosa and the Horizon Experimental Forest Station in Guanacaste. Tickets are available on the organization's website.







Diquis Museum in Palmar Sur, Osa, Puntarenas, offers walking tours through the archaeological zone known as Finca Sitio 6. Tours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ticket is $7 and must be paid by credit or debit card.








Lankester Botanical Gardens, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre, Cartago opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $10  and is available on site.




The Art Museum in downtown La Sabana, San José, presents private collections of Latin American artists. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ticket is $15.


National Museum in downtown San José, presents an exhibition of Costa Rica's history and handmade artifacts, including some more than 12,000 years old, made by the first peoples of the region. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket is $11.



Gold Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $15.
