An
ensemble of leading lights takes the
stage for Offenbach’s
fantastical final work, headlined by
tenor Benjamin Bernheim in the title
role of the tormented poet. Hoffmann’s
trio of lovers are sung by soprano
Erin Morley as the mechanical doll
Olympia, soprano Pretty Yende as the
plagued diva Antonia, and
mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine as
the Venetian seductress Giulietta.
Marco Armiliato conducts Bartlett Sher’s
evocative production, which also
features bass-baritone Christian Van
Horn as the Four Villains and
mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya in
an
important
company debut as Hoffmann’s
friend Nicklausse. The show begins at

The San José
Township Band will perform a folk music
concert at Ofelia Carvajal
nursing home in
Alajuela. The
free concert starts at 10 a.m.
The Eugene O'Neill Theater in San José will present the Symphonic Rock Concert, featuring the Costa Rica Orchestra paying tribute to legendary rock bands such as Metallica, Nirvana, Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, among others. The program starts at 5 p.m. Tickets for $18 are available at the theater box office or online.
This weekend
Oktober Fest Costa
Rica will take place at the Pedregal Events
Center in Heredia.
The festival includes live music, dance
performances, games, over 150 different
beer brands, and traditional German
cuisine. On Friday, the celebration
starts at 5 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday,
it will start at noon. Tickets vary from $25

The Lucho Barahona Theater in downtown San José is now showing "The Mummy," a funny performance with the comedian characters Juan Vainas and Chibolo. The play, based on a Halloween story, seeks to answer the following question: what would you do if you discovered a sarcophagus buried in your backyard? Friday and Saturday, the performance starts at 8 p.m. Sunday's show begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the theater box office.
The comedy play "No Job, No Money" is playing at the Molière Theater in downtown San José. The comedy follows a group of friends who must go to crazy lengths to make ends meet. La Máscara Theater in downtown San
José offers the comedy "We Both", about
two friends, Elvirilla and Marcelenda,
who reconnect after many years apart. On

Libertad Park Club in Desamparados in San José presents activities for teenagers such as painting, dance, music, sports and arts. The free and pet-friendly event begins at 9 a.m.
Children's
Museum in
downtown San José features special
activities for kids. The museum opens at
9 a.m. Tickets $3 are available
on the
museum's website.
Tours are
available at the
Wildlife Rescue Center in
Barrio San José District in Alajuela.
The animal sanctuary and wildlife
conservation center tours include
botanical gardens and more than 125
species of rescued animals including
sloths, monkeys, jaguars, tapir,
birds, and reptiles. They cannot be
released back to their natural
habitat. Tickets are $30 or $15 per
child available on the
center's website.

Saving the Rainforest Wildlife
Sanctuary in
Quepos Beach, Puntarenas. The
non-profit organization is home to
nearly 50 animals that cannot be

National Park in Guanacaste, beginning

private collections of Latin American

Gold Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $15.
