Many amusing activities are happening this weekend, including concerts, plays, festivals, cultural events and shows among many others. Kindly inform us of any weekend events taking place in your community by sending an email to news@amcostarica.com.










On Friday




The Jazz Festival will take place at the Spain Culture Center facilities in San José's Escalante District. The Spanish community in Costa Rica is hosting the event, which will feature live music, workshops, and food stands. The free event begins starts at 7 p.m.




The San José's Township Band will offer free folk music at the Filomena Blanco School in Vista de Mar District in San José. The free event begins at 10 a.m.












On Saturday




The Grand Gala Parade organized by the Limón Black Ethnic Cultural Civic Committee Association will take place at the Asís Esna Park in Limón. Talks, creative workshops, food stands, Calypso band musical performances, civic events, book presentations, conferences, sports events, and traditional games are just a few of the activities featured at the festival. The free and pet-friendly event begins at 11:30 a.m.




Ricky Martin, a Puerto Rican pop music singer, will perform at the Viva Park Amphitheater in Guácima Canton, Alajuela Province. The show features an orchestra performance. Tickets, which range from $70 to $200, are available on the Etickets website.




The Cartago's Township Band will offer free classical music at the Cartago Cathedral in Cartago City. The free event begins at 5:30 p.m.




Concert of classical music by the National Institute of Music at its headquarters in Moravia City, San Jose. The free concert begins at 3 p.m.








On Saturday and Sunday




The CATIE International Fair 2024 taking place at
the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center located in Turrialba Canton, Cartago. The event's goal of support 14 social welfare local institutions. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of recreational, sports, and cultural activities, as well as savor delicious traditional foods from 16 Latin American and Caribbean countries, prepared by each beneficiary institution under the guidance of our Graduate School students. The event begins at 9 a.m.





The National Theater in downtown San José presents "Little Women" based on the novel written by American novelist Louisa May Alcott. The play is featured by the National Theater Company. On Saturday, the show starts at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.  On Sunday, it starts at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Ticket's $16 and are available on the theater's website.

On Sunday




The Espressivo Theater, in San José, presents "I am Pinocchio," a children's play based on the novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian writer Carlo Collodi of Florence, Tuscany. The program begins at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and are available at the theater box office.





The Philharmonic Orchestra will pay tribute to Rush, the Canadian band, in San Jose's National Auditorium. The concert promises to excite fans of the rock band's hits, including "Tom Sawyer," "2112," "Limelight," and "Working Man," among others. The contest starts at 4 p.m. Tickets are $47 and are available through the One Ticket website.











This weekend




The National Dance Company presents the "Drum Crying Dance Show" at
the Dance Theater housed within the Ministry of Culture's facilities in San José. On Friday and Saturday, the show begins at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the program begins at 6 p.m.  Admission is free. Reservations must be submitted online.




The Abend Dance Festival will be hosted at the Eugene O'Neill Theater in San José. Professional dancers created the choreography and music for the presentation. On Friday and Saturday, the show begins at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the program begins at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $16 and may be purchased at the theater's box office or online.





The Espressivo Theater, in San José, performs "Every Brilliant Thing," a play based on Duncan Macmillan's original work. The piece, set to a boy's handwritten list to cheer up his despairing mother, evolves into an unexpectedly hilarious and heartfelt hymn to mankind. This performance involves conversations about depression and suicide and is appropriate for children aged 12 and above, accompanied by an adult. On Friday and Saturday, the performance starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and are available at the theater's box office.








The Van Gogh Immersive Art Experience Show
takes place in the Center for Science and Culture. The place is housed within the Children's Museum facilities in downtown San José. The performance combines hundreds of Van Gogh's masterpieces with cutting-edge technology and a musical soundtrack. The gallery's doors open at noon. Tickets are available for $12 at the museum's box office. 




Suegras Barbaras, or Crazy Mothers-in-Law, is a comedy performance playing in the Triciclo Theater, in downtown San José. It is a comedy about a couple on vacation who, due to an unexpected circumstance, must travel with their mother-in-law. On Friday and Saturday, the show starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the comedy begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available at the theater box office.




La Máscara Theater in downtown San José offers the comedy piece "Ghosts on a Hot Tin Roof." The satire tells the narrative of its characters as they go through a bizarre and haunting situation. On Friday and Saturday, the show starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the comedy begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $16 and available at the theater box office.








The comedy play "No Job, No Money" is playing at the Molière Theater in downtown San José. The comedy follows a group of friends who must go to crazy lengths to make ends meet. On Friday and Saturday, the show starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the comedy begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at the theater box office.








Libertad Park Club in Desamparados in San José presents activities for teenagers such as painting, dance, music, sports and arts. The free and pet-friendly event begins at 9 a.m.





Children's Museum in downtown San José features special activities for kids. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Tickets $3 are available on the museum's website.  




Tours are available at the Wildlife Rescue Center in Barrio San José District in Alajuela. The animal sanctuary and wildlife conservation center tours include botanical gardens and more than 125 species of rescued animals including sloths, monkeys, jaguars, tapir, birds, and reptiles. They cannot be released back to their natural habitat. Tickets are $30 or $15 per child available on the center's website.




Tours are available at Kids Saving the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary in Quepos Beach, Puntarenas. The non-profit organization is home to nearly 50 animals that cannot be released back into the wild. Ticket is $10. Make reservations by emailing Chip@kstr.org or calling 8827-8243.

Experience the arrival of sea turtles at Ostional National Park in Guanacaste, beginning at 6:30 a.m. with an expert guide from the Ostional Tourist Guides Association. Tour price $8.

Free swimming, Zumba, aerobics, sports games, fitness and diving are among many other courses at Ojo de Agua Water Park in San Antonio Belen, Heredia. The club includes a parking area, restaurant, several swimming pools for adults and a swimming pool area for children, a playground, tennis areas, basketball areas and a soccer field. Kalambu Hot Springs Water Park in La Fortuna, Alajuela, offers more than 10 aquatic activities and hot spring pools. The park opens at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8 or $13 including lunch. Free for children under 4 years old.



Go ride hopping at the Parque de Diversiones in La Uruca, San José. The amusement park has more than 17 rides such as roller coasters, carousels, twists and bumper cars among many others. System of Conservation Areas invites visitors to the Chirripó National Parks in Cartago and Limon, Poás Volcano in Alajuela, Tortuguero in Limon, San Lucas Island in Puntarenas, Irazú Volcano in Cartago and Manuel Antonio Beach in Puntarenas. Make reservations on the organization's website.




Guanacaste Conservation Area invites visitors to both the Santa Rosa and the Horizon Experimental Forest Station in Guanacaste. Tickets are available on the organization's website.




Diquis Museum in Palmar Sur, Osa, Puntarenas, offers walking tours through the archaeological zone known as Finca Sitio 6. Tours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ticket is $7 and must be paid by credit or debit card.








Lankester Botanical Gardens, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre, Cartago opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $10  and is available on site.




The Art Museum in downtown La Sabana, San José, presents private collections of Latin American artists. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ticket is $15.


National Museum in downtown San José, presents an exhibition of Costa Rica's history and handmade artifacts, including some more than 12,000 years old, made by the first peoples of the region. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket is $11.






Gold Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $15.
