On Friday





The U.S. University of Wyoming Jazz School performs a free concert at 7 p.m. at the Cartago Cultural Center. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Cartago.









On Friday and Saturday





The Ministry of Culture's Cinema Center, in San José, is hosting the Bowie Movie Fest, a tribute to David Bowie, the iconic English singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. On Friday at 7 p.m., they’ll be showing "Absolute Beginners," a rock musical based on Colin MacInnes's novel about life in late 1950s London. Then, on Saturday at 7 p.m., you can catch "Labyrinth," the dark musical fantasy film.   Both screenings are free, but they’re only open to those 18 and older.











On Saturday


The Solidaton, a charity event organized by the Tiempos de Esperanza Foundation, will be held at the Amphitheater of the Ministry of Culture in San José. The event starts at 1 p.m. and features music performances, dances, and concerts, all aimed at raising funds to buy 50,000 school supplies for low-income families. There’s no set ticket price but attendees are encouraged to donate what they can.




The National System of Musical Education Orchestra is teaming up with the Youth Orchestra of Mexico City for a free concert at 6 p.m
. The event will be held at the Church of San Cristóbal Norte in Desamparados Canton, San José.




The Eugene O'Neill Theater in San José will broadcast Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, a tragic opera in four acts. The story follows an Ethiopian princess, kidnapped in Egypt, who falls in love with General Radames, chosen to lead a war against her homeland. The opera beautifully captures the emotional struggle between Aida's love for the General and her loyalty to her country.   The live broadcast from the New York Metropolitan Opera House starts at 10:50 a.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online or at the theater's box office.




The Diesel Rock Band will bring a night of 90s American music to Green Room in Jaco Beach, Puntarenas. The concert starts at 8 p.m., offering a nostalgic experience for fans of the decade’s iconic rock tunes. Tickets are priced at $20 and can be purchased at the venue’s box office.




The Stone Dive Rock Band will take the stage at Yellow Submarine Pub in San José for a concert inspired by iconic American rock bands like Nirvana, Linkin Park and Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others. The show kicks off at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the venue’s box office.







 



This weekend





The comedy play "Adulterando" (Adultery) will be performed at the 1887 Theater in the Ministry of Culture in San José. Featuring the Colectivo Mabulé theater company, the show is for audiences 18 and older.  Showtimes: Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. Tickets are $13 and can be purchased at the theater box office.




The Palmares Festival is underway in
Palmares Canton, Alajuela Province, organized by the Palmareña Civic Association. The extravaganza offers a variety of cultural experiences, including live music concerts, city canopy activities, children’s games, dances, bullfights, and sports championships. Most of the events are free to attend and pet-friendly. Tickets for the bar and restaurant zone are available at the venue’s box office for approximately $20.





The Moliere Theater in San José shows the comedy play "Papichulo" (Handsome Daddy). The story follows a thief who ends up in all kinds of crazy trouble while trying to rob a house full of women. Showtimes:  Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the theater box office.








The Torres Theater in San José is featuring the comedy play "Orgasms." The show takes a funny and honest look at the complexities of modern relationships. Showtimes: on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at the theater box office. Please note, the show is for audiences 15 years old and older.




Step right up to the "Fuentes-Gasca Circus" at the Cable Tica facilities in Sabana, San José, for a dazzling show filled with excitement and wonder! Witness incredible trapeze artists, captivating music, lively dance, talented jugglers, hilarious clowns, and magical acts that will leave you amazed. Performances are held daily at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. Tickets are just $6 and can be purchased at the circus box office. Bring the whole family for an unforgettable circus experience!     






Take a thrilling journey back in time at the Children's Museum in San José with "Jurassic World Experience." The Diquis Museum in Palmar Sur, Osa, Puntarenas offers walking tours through the archaeological zone of Finca Sitio 6. Tours are available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with tickets costing $7. Payments are accepted by credit or debit card.







Lankester Botanical Gardens, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre, Cartago opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $10  and is available on site.











The Art Museum in downtown La Sabana, San José, presents private collections of Latin American artists. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ticket is $15.




National Museum in downtown San José, presents an exhibition of Costa Rica's history and handmade artifacts, including some more than 12,000 years old, made by the first peoples of the region. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket is $11.






Gold Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $15.
