By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Ministry of Public Transports announced that a section of the highway near the Hatillo 4 District in San José Province has been closed due to highway reconstruction.
Because an overpass is being built in the area, a 400-meter stretch of road has been blocked to vehicle traffic.
The road is closed for the next nine months to allow for the construction of the overpass structure that crosses over another road at the current traffic lights intersection in Hatillo.
The design calls for the highway to be expanded to six lanes, three in each direction of travel, as well as the installation of sidewalks and green spaces on both sides of the new route.
Authorities
are calling on drivers to avoid crossing
through Hatillo District. Instead, use
alternative routes to cross from the
cantons of Montes de Oca to Pavas. For
drivers who travel through the
construction zone, traffic officers will
regulate vehicle passage. The Roadway
Safety Council's budget covers the
estimated $12 million cost of the
roadway repair project. The new
roadway is scheduled to open in 2025,
according to officials. The new
Hatillo highway construction is one of
some road improvement initiatives
developed by the ministry. This
week, authorities announced their
construction of the Route 32 highway
expansion, which connects the
provinces of San José and Cartago.
