To protect tourists and improve their experience of visiting the Pacific Coast, tourist entrepreneurs from Puntarenas Canton launched a safety campaign.

The motto "El Puerto Te Cuida," which means in English the port protects you, referring to the canton as the main port of the country, was developed by the Puntarenas Tourism Promotion Board and the National Tourist Safety Commission.

According to the organizers, the campaign will train tourism entrepreneurs to implement protection measures for tourists and improve the quality of their companies' services.

"Through training and workshops that will be given by experts, entrepreneurs will implement risk prevention measures," the authorities said.

The training will be focused on solving and avoiding criminal activities which may damage the image and reputation of the Canton.

“For tourism activity to continue with a peaceful recovery, it is essential to maintain a safe environment and pleasant stay for our visitors who come to enjoy the various services, culture, nature and gastronomy of Puntarenas. We are implementing preventive measures for the well-being of national and foreign tourists,” Juan Ramón-Rivera, president of the Costa Rican Institute of Pacific Ports said.

Tourist safety is an element that adds great value to the development of communities, the authorities added.

This security program will allow managing and reducing risk factors that can be identified and resolved promptly, Rivera said.

Training for tourism service companies on safety issues will be developed for the rest of the year. Among the topics of the workshops are general tourism information, creating business networks, providing high-quality services, increasing security measures among others.
