Planning your
periodontalsurgery in Costa Rica ![]() By Patrick Goodness Goodness Dental -Paid Partnership- Do you have advanced periodontitis? Has your dentist recommended surgery? Periodontal surgery costs much less in Costa Rica. This article helps patients understand what to expect, and how to plan for periodontal surgery in Costa Rica. Your Costa Rica periodontist offers significant savings when it comes to periodontal surgery. After a thorough evaluation of your situation, your periodontist will offer you a full range of periodontal treatments at prices that will likely be fifty to seventy percent less than prices for the same periodontal surgery in the USA. Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums. Left untreated, it can lead to tissue and even bone loss. If you have a severe or advanced case of periodontitis, you may be a candidate for surgery. Your Costa Rica periodontist will perform a full evaluation and look for red, swollen or bleeding gums and a separation of the gum tissue from the sides of your teeth (known as pockets). Your periodontist will also look for bone and tissue loss. Periodontists may recommend any of the following interventions: • Guided tissue regeneration • Bone grafts • Surgery to your gums • Tissue grafts In preparation for your procedure, you’ll want to avoid using tobacco or alcohol at least 24 hours beforehand. You may be prescribed an antibiotic before your visit and you’ll want to have someone available to take you home afterwards since your dentist may apply sedation or anesthetic during your procedure. Clinics like Goodness Dental have a comfortable and spacious post-surgery recovery room and also provide free airport pickups and all transportation from the patient’s hotel to the dental clinic and back. To promote your recovery, your periodontist will ask you to take a preventive antibiotic. You’ll also want to eat soft foods for at least a week afterwards. You may experience swelling and bleeding after your surgery. Your periodontist may recommend placing sterile gauze in your mouth for a few hours afterward surgery. You can apply an ice pack to areas of your face where swelling is noticeable. Studies show that periodontal surgery has a high rate of success, especially if you practice excellent oral care afterwards and avoid any use of tobacco. Be sure to ask questions and spend quality time with your Costa Rican periodontist as they review your treatment options with you. The more you know the better you’ll handle both the pre-operative and post-operative phases of your periodontal treatment. Goodness Dental is an American-owned dental clinic and is ranked as the #1 Dental Clinic in Costa Rica by CostaRicaDentalGuide.com and GCR.org.
