Due to the Mother’s Day Holiday, highway Route #27 from Pacific Coast to San José will implement reversed lanes today.

Traditionally observed on Aug. 15, authorities moved the holiday to Monday, for a long weekend which ends today.

This will improve the flow of vehicles to the capital for those returning from Guanacaste and Puntarenas.

According to the Ministry of Public Transports, all available lanes between the Pozon Canton toll in Alajuela Province and the Ciudad Colón toll in San José Province will go towards San José, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Closures will start one hour before the effective time and end one hour later, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The maximum speed allowed will be 37 mph or about 60 kph.

Drivers who travel on the opposite way, from San José to the Pacific Coast during the road reverse schedule, must do so by one of the three optional routes:

  • Route 1 is from Rio Segundo Canton in Alajuela Province to Esparza Canton in Puntarenas Province to then enter Route 23.

  • Route 3 is from the cantons of Rio Segundo to Atenas in Alajuela Province to later connect to Route 23 in Puntarenas Province.

  • Route 239 is from Río Segundo Canton in Alajuela Province to Ciudad Colón District in San José Province to then access Route 23.

Authorities warn drivers to consider this schedule when planning their drive.

For an updated status of the route or to request assistance, call the Control Center at 2588-4040.
