President Rodrigo Chaves-Robles and Laurentino Cortizo-Cohen, Panama's president, inaugurated the new General Border Control Center headquarters in Paso Canoas Canton in Puntarenas Province.
This facility was financed with a $33 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), located in an international city shared between Costa Rica and Panama to process the crossing of goods and people entering the country from Panama.
At the center, border police officers will attend to carriers, trade operators, exporters and importers from both countries and other parts of Central America.
Paso Canoas consists of an
integrated control center, with
digitized and optimized processes, and a
dual-facility system where the two
countries carry out joint and
simultaneous control at a single point.
"This
control post slashes average cargo
transit times from hours to minutes,
reduces passenger transit times by
50%, lowers transportation costs, and
promotes integration," said the bank
in its statement. ---------------
