The Ministry of Health issued a warning regarding a product called Seawater Injectable, which is used as medication and has been distributed in Costa Rica.

According to the ministry, an inquiry into the injectable form of seawater substance that is being promoted and sold as medication began with an anonymous complaint.

Based on the findings of the investigations, the medication is marketed in the cantons of Cahuita in Limón Province and San Carlos in Alajuela Province.

Also, the substance is being promoted on a Facebook page called Dr. Hamer Medicine in Costa Rica, authorities added.

When inspected by authorities, they found the product mentioned in the complaint is of unknown manufacture and origin.

The conditions under which it was manufactured also are unknown because there is no sanitary operating permit for it.

In Costa Rica, all medications, whether natural, synthetic, or a combination of both, must be registered with the Ministry of Health.

According to the General Health Law, the manufacturing, production, import, manufacture, trade, and distribution of damaged, adulterated, or falsified products are forbidden. The companies that sell these products could be closed and the owners face criminal penalties.

The agents of the ministry continue with the investigations of the company that is marketing this product.

However, people who have suspicions of the sale of this product can make a complaint by calling the ministry at (506) 2223-0333.
